6 of the Best Wineries to Visit Near Pleasanton, CA
Looking for the perfect bottle of light and fruity dry white wine, or perhaps an oaky and mellow red is more your tipple? Thanks to the ideal climate, Pleasanton, CA is known for creating excellent, award-winning wines. In fact, wine production has taken place in the area since the 1880s, and there are now over 50 wineries. With such a long list of producers, we’d like to showcase six of the best.
Rubino Estates Winery
At Rubino Estates the staff expertly produce both traditional Californian and Italian flavors. It is rare that you can buy, for example, both a Californian Chardonnay and an Italian Sangiovese from the same producer. The tasting rooms at Rubino Estates are open seven days although a reservation is needed for the weekend. There are two different tasting flights which are both available for under $20. Please drink responsibly and in moderation.
Ruby Hill Winery
An early reservation is needed for weekend tasting at Ruby Hill. The wine flights regularly change, so head to their website beforehand to see what is on offer. General flights will include four different wines and will cost you up to $30. For an extra special occasion, you might consider the Release Flight or Jewel Flight, which include wine that has been oak-aged for over two years.
Elliston Vineyards
Tasting sessions are available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am until 4 pm. The standard price for tastings includes a mixture of eight different wines. The menu will change each month because flight wines are predominantly sale items. This means that you can often grab yourselves a bargain.
Tenuta Vineyards
If you are in a group with non-wine drinkers, head to Tenuta Vineyards and they won’t be disappointed. Alongside excellent wine flights, Tenuta also offers specialist beer tasting. You can choose from an extensive list in both the wine tasting and beer tasting rooms. This winery is also child-friendly and they have a separate room that is equipped with a television and a projection screen for entertaining. Alcohol is intended for adults of legal drinking age.
Westover and Palomares Vineyards
Out of all the United States vineyards, Westover and Palomares make the most port wine. So it would be a shame not to give it a try. Drop-in tastings are available on the weekends from 12.30 pm until 5 pm. A tasting will cost you a little under $10 per person and usually includes five wines or four port wines. Please drink responsibly. Also, the tasting fee is waived if you purchase a bottle on site.
The Winemakers Studio at Wente Vineyards
The exclusive Winemakers Studio is by appointment only. Around $30 will give you a seated tasting experience, where you can choose between one of two flights. Food pairings are also available, and guidance can be given. For an upgrade to just under $100, you can enjoy a flight selection from the Winemakers Studio’s small-lot wines with pre-selected pairing dishes.
